The aesthetics industry has drawn a line between Baby Boomers and Millennials! A strange sentence to launch a blog article, but there are differences between Millennials and Baby Boomers considering a facial aesthetic treatment. Perception, for one, plays a massive part in their respective decisions.
Who are Millennials and Baby Boomers?
Millennials (also known as Generation Y) are those born between 1981 and 1996. Baby Boomers were born from 1946 to 1964. While there are a couple of generations between the two ‘types’ of person, there is also a big difference in opinion about facial aesthetics.
If you’re reading this article, you will probably fall into one of these two categories and have formed an opinion of facial aesthetic treatments. Much of your opinion may be linked to your view of self-care.
How do Baby Boomers see self-care?
Baby Boomers understand the need for a healthy balance of exercise, nutritious food and like to have an attractive appearance. While the generation has an increased disposable income, they also feel guilty about spending money on themselves.
Many Baby Boomers are stressed and realise they may look tired on the outside (and probably feel it on the inside). They do not want to look worn-out and may think it’s interpreted by others as a sign of weakness or letting standards drop.
Baby Boomers like to make an effort with their appearance and feel good when they achieve such – feeling even better when complimented. They may, however, perceive complications regarding facial aesthetics and cannot risk any snags because they are too busy.
How do Millennials see self-care?
Millennials take wellness and self-care as standard, a necessity even. They have no regrets in allocating time and money towards looking and feeling good, whether it be exercise, nutrition or appearance.
Millennials have zero guilt about having a facial aesthetics treatment and are proud to shout about the results and experience.
Baby Boomers – you do not need to seek permission to look good
I see this need for permission often when clients of Baby Boomer age visit the clinic for a consultation. Something in their mindset lingers about not wanting to spend time or money on themselves. Investing a little personal TLC is almost a waste because it means compromising something or someone else.
Baby Boomer clients who come to me for facial aesthetic treatments like to keep the procedures under wraps and seek complete discretion. Sometimes I’m the only person they confide in.This narrative must change. It’s more than OK to want to feel good about yourself and if that means spending money to achieve the look and feeling you desire… go for it.
Baby Boomers, you do not need to seek permission from yourself or others and it’s never too late to think like a Millennial!

As a qualified medical practitioner registered with the British College of Aesthetic Medicine, I believe in continued professional development and staying up to date with the current trends in lip shapes, eyebrow contours and face reshaping for all genders. I bring my art skills to the treatment room to help copy a picture and bring it to life!
As a ‘seasoned professional’, I’m more than aware of the unhelpful limiting beliefs that set in once you turn 50. I have been a friendly face for many clients facing traumatic midlife milestones and events. Believe me, when I say I have heard and seen everything, I have, and nothing shocks me.
